Jelly Belly
Ok, in the grocery store there is an entire line of Jelly Belly containers, they are priced at like $5/lb. and there are a multitude of different kinds available. That is the background, now the question, is it okay to sample (sample meaning one or two jelly beans) one or two different kinds in order to discover which kind you wish to purchase?

Of course not. If you were choosing between bags of chips or boxes of cereal you wouldn't be allowed to sample. Likewise, you don't get to sample all non-packaged items to determine which you'd prefer. If you're picking between bananas and peaches you don't get to try one of each. There's no logical reason why you should be allowed to taste-test the jelly beans.
It's not only allowed, it's freaking required!
no that's gross... i don't think i will ever buy jelly belly's now...
Maria it is not like sticking your hand into a container; they are dispensed by pulling a lever after which gravity drops them into the bag, or in this case your hand. So I guess I do not understand why that is gross.
yeah, I'm not advocating licking em and putting them back or anything. But nobody should be required to buy a popcorn flavored jelly-bean without knowing what it tastes like beforehand.
No one is required!
It's the free market economy. You sit in a chair before you buy it, you look at the back flap of a book before you read it, you watch a movie trailer before you go to see it, you listen to a politician's stump speech before you vote for them. If we start treating Jelly Belly jelly beans differently there will be anarchy and chaos and socialists everywhere claiming that all jelly beans are the same. I just don't think we can risk it.
See my first comment. That's not the way it works when it comes to food.
Let's be honest here, y'all are just trying to justify stealing jelly beans. I think there might be a commandment about that somewhere...
Thank you Matt. You are on my side (the legal and moral side) of the issue.
"help! help! I'm being repressed!"
