Caucus '08
So yesterday was super tuesday and boy was it a hoot. Well neither Emily or I went out and caucused but we thought about it, well at least I did. Either way I have heard some pretty funny stories about how it went down this election cycle here in good old MN and wow is all I have to say.
From what I have heard there were so many people that went out that most people were writing down their choice of candidate on the backs of scratch paper and even receipts. Overall the system sounded like it was pretty chaotic but interesting to listen to in any case.
So, what do you all think of the caucus and how our system is working? Like it, don't like it?

i am done with politics, meaning i am going into them!! haha. i feel like not enough people get involved with the system to make it work the way it should. so how do we fix that?
I had to write 'Obama' on a sticky note, they were way overcrowded. At my site they said they had 12 people last year, and there were 53 people this year. (we went 35-18 Obama)
It was my first Caucus, and it was interesting. They tried to make me a Franken/Madina(sp?) delegate, but I didn't feel like spending a weekend in Orono, so I'm just an alternate.
Anyway, it was interesting...and you don't usually get to drive for half an hour to get somewhere two minutes away :P
Being a long-time caucus attender, it was quite interesting to see all the first-timers there. Seriously, didn't you guys cover this in your civics class?? Everyone there thought it was just to vote, which is always a small part of the caucus process. The point is getting a lot of people involved at a grassroots level to talk about issues that they're concerned about. If it was just to vote, we'd have a primary like everyone else.
Technically you could show up just to vote. Of the 53 people who voted in my precinct, only 19 stuck around for the actual debate, discussions, divying up of delegates, etc. The rest came by, wrote down their votes, and departed.
That didn't bother me much either, we ran for over an hour as it was. I can't imagine how long the resolution proposal time slot might have gone if all 53 people had been there.
